My 5 Favorite Benefits to Aging

Posted on September 18, 2020September 18, 2020 by Aging Gracefully TV

The Following 5 Benefits to Aging Are My Personal Favorites!

My 5 Favorite Benefits to Aging, written by Monica Alexa

Benefit #1: You Can Be Who You Want To Be

You can embrace aging as the opportune time to become the person you always wanted to become!

Aging allows a greater sense of self-awareness and self-acceptance. Feeling confident is the result of self-acceptance. With less focus on the opinion of others, you can have more fun and let loose!

There is no time better than NOW to share who you really are with your family and friends. It is the wisdom of our older society, our silent majority, that has the power STILL to influence the world!

Benefit #2: Time Is Valued

The importance of time is better understood in your later years. As an older adult, there is an acute awareness that there are a finite number of years left to enjoy. Nothing can stop an older adult in pursuit of his or her dreams!

Refuse to live a fear-based life! Seek positivity! Make it paramount. Heal or cultivate family relationships and put some spice in life with spontaneity.

Making new friends does NOT have to be a challenge. What are you passionate about? Where do other people go with the same passion?

Benefit #3: Experience Builds Wisdom

Don’t buy into the myth that increased age is equal to declined mental abilities. The brain continues to grow and you can continue to build and reshape it in response to new stimuli.

Younger people tend to use one side of their brain at a time but aging adults use both hemispheres simultaneously. This allows for greater reasoning and power-solving. Feel smart! Be smart!

Contribute as a volunteer, participate in civic or political issues, and put your experience and liberty of speech to good use. Surround yourself with likeminded people!

Benefit #4: Emotional Resilience Abounds

Consider how your perspective has changed in later years. You’ve mellowed knowing that mistakes and failures were simply learning experiences.

Who remembers the emotional roller-coaster drama-filled younger years? Thank goodness those days are over! As emotional resilience grows with age, so does control over emotional swings. Better coping skills develop which prevent drastic mood swings.

Benefit #5: Happiness is the New Normal

It’s so much easier to distinguish between what you want and what you need once you’re past 50 years old. The result: contentment!

Wisdom and emotional resiliency have advanced your default emotion to general happiness. This, combined with time, allows for energy and focus on creating an exceptional world for future generations.

Noting daily successes brings a sense of empowerment and satisfaction. Stay grateful and be an encouragement to others!

Embrace the Benefits of Aging

Cherish your time and embrace what you have remaining! Revel in your ability to choose how to spend your time. What you do with a moment counts. YOU must believe that YOU can still make a difference in the world.

Your happiness and positivity are contagious, benefitting all. Help others realize that things are not as bleak as they sometimes appear.

I definitely have mellowed. I’m more content & happier due to retirement. I am so much more relaxed & relatively stress free
