Once I published my first novel, an unexpected and pleasant surprise awaited me. Some of my earliest reviews were from grandparents and their grandkids who mutually fell in love with the story. Some read the novel to each other, others separately, but together they discussed the tale and its meaning while they navigated through my fictional world. It was truly inspiring.
Perhaps we look too far for solutions. Maybe clues from the past can help improve our quality of life today.

I encourage you to light a fire, literally and figuratively, and begin a reading project with your child or grandchild. Find something wonderful and imaginative that you both can enjoy. Discuss the characters, the twists and turns, and the parts which boosted your spirits or made you cry. It is a book club.
