Middle Child Day is August 12thand Left-Handed Day is August 13th
Let’s Celebrate Left-Handed Middle Children!

The Mighty Middle Child
Will the Middle Child Become Extinct?
Middle children are becoming rare as family sizes have decreased to just one or two children! But, if you are a middle child, you have a good chance at success since you may have had to vie for attention among your siblings. In fact, maybe you’ll be president someday! Apparently, 52% of US presidents since 1787 have been middle children, including Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and John F. Kennedy!
The Middle Child is Strong and Independent!
Middle-borns are less likely to be the focus of their parents’ attention so they figure things out on their own and often become strongly independent and resourceful. Their strength also makes them peacemakers, desiring cooperation, understanding, and negotiating, as opposed to working with violent communication.
Although middle children typically like spending time alone, they often have special bonds with their siblings. Realizing how busy their parents are, brothers or sisters are often the go-to-source of middle children instead of their parents.
Beware of the Mighty Middles!
Beware those Mighty Middles as you might just underestimate how uniquely equipped they are to take on the world to effect powerful changes!
What About Left-Handed People?
12% of the world is left-handed, 87% right-handed, and 1% ambidextrous. The number of lefties has increased since children aren’t forced to learn with their right hand as often as it used to happen!
Presidential Opportunities!
5 out of 8 Recent Presidents were left-handed: Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Gerald Ford.
All three candidates in the 1992 presidential election (Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, and Ross Perot) were left-handed!
Left-Handed Celebrities
Other well-known lefthanders are Leonardo Da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, Fidel Castro, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Cole Porter, Lewis Carroll, Marilyn Monroe, Franz Kafka, Mark Twain, Charles Chaplin, Oprah, Queen Elizabeth, and Bill Gates.
Lefthanders have taken their share of abuse. They’ve been called weak, having poor luck, or even considered sinister, which all created good reasons for the left-handed child to write with the right hand.
Strong and Adaptable!
In actuality, the daily challenges of using devices and everyday items made for righties, like scissors, can openers, ice cream scoops, or zippers can make lefties stronger and more adaptable to adversity. Lefties can take advantage of sports like tennis, swimming, boxing, and fencing.
One More FUN FACT
Twins Day is celebrated the first weekend of August and TWINS are more likely to be left-handed! A Belgian study looked at 1,700 pairs of twins in 1996 and found that nearly 21% were left-handed!

I knew a fabulous middle child that never seemed to fear failure and left a lasting impact on our lives. I also know a remarkable left-hander that had great success with academics, business, sports, music, parenting and pogo sticks. Thank you for celebrating these unique individuals.
