What if you could live to 100? What if you could bear witness to the changing world, see your great-grandchildren become adults, and enjoy life in a healthy body up to or past 100 years?
You can if you have a plan!
The Fearless After Fifty Plan
1. Make a Commitment to a Long Life
If the goal is to live your precious life as your strongest, healthiest version, a commitment to care of mind, and body is necessary. The earlier you commit, the better.
With few inspiring role models, “over the hill” jokes begin at 50 years. Black party decorations symbolize the end of fun and the grim beginning of pains, illnesses, and dementia that will whisk you to the grave.
2. Strategize
Life is finite. If there is birth, there will be death. Life begins with an instinct for self-preservation and a fight to live, yet there is no expiration date for our guidance.
Work constructively toward your goal by “backing it up.” Envision yourself in 5, 10, or more years, then outline necessary steps that make it real. This is now your Action Plan.
3. Train for Future Years
Do you hope to simply get up and down from the floor easily, or do you prefer to hike, travel, or play sports? Train now for your desired future.
4. Train Intelligently
Work within your limitations as you level up. Advancing your efforts are worth the time and money invested in yourself. Find qualified trainers who understand the aging body to maximize healthy returns.
5. Get Started
Begin honestly. Decide where you will start and research what’s required. There are no excuses in this age of free information. Here is a list of lifestyle changes to consider and get started on immediately:
- Improve diet (strengthen your gut microbiome)
- Increase exercise
- Connect socially with friends and family
- Make quality sleep a priority
- Spend time in nature
- Get a handle on addictions (sugar, alcohol, drugs bad relationships)
- Become tech-savvy (but not so much that it creates more stress)
- Find new activities that give you purpose and motivation
- Make life fun. Plan events in advance.
Recommit Daily to Your Long Healthy Life
Create your future today by focusing on one or two changes at a time. As you feel the success, go back to step one and repeat.
