Sam Boggess continues to attend Strength & Balance classes regularly.
Some seniors are afraid of technology, but Sam definitely isn’t. In fact, knowing he’s electronically adept, I recently asked Sam if he knew how to convert a new CD to a digital file for me. Sam, always willing to help, made a comment something like, “Sure, I’m permanently on vacation now.”
The fact is that Sam stays busy all the time and he is being kind and generous when he offers to help me or others in the class.
Sam hasn’t let his stroke deter him from anything!
“I still do everything, but now it takes me longer,” Sam says. At this time, he has returned to physical therapy to try to release some of the muscle tightness from the stroke, which causes severe pain for him and reduces his mobility.
Sam is a shining example of aging gracefully, as he accepts his limitations but doesn’t let them stop him!
I wish more people were as comfortable as Sam in attending and participating in exercise classes in a way that works for them. There is no perfection. Get some exercise and social time without worrying that you’re doing things perfectly.
