Prepare to be impressed in this 20-minute interview with Sherry!
Whether you are a writer, historian, or resident of Avon Lake, Ohio, you’ll appreciate Sherry Newman Spenzer’s views on the importance of local history.
Sherry, a proud grandmother of two, has devoted herself to researching local history since her retirement. Her most recent book, Lakeshore Cemetery of Avon Lake, can be purchased through Heritage Avon Lake, on Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.
Here’s the amazing thing…
Sherry has spent time researching, interviewing, digging up historic photos, finding a publisher, outlining, and writing. Yet, she isn’t making a cent!
Sherry has contributed 100% of proceeds to her local historical society. She says her talent and time is her legacy to her children and grandchildren. Successive generations can learn about the past and better understand appreciate how much easier it is to live NOW.
THIS is something we can ALL LEARN FROM.
- It all starts with a DECISION.
- It continues with the COMMITMENT.
- It follows with ACTION.
Sherry’s suggestion to writers…
“Start with what commands your attention so deeply that you can’t let it go and you want to keep returning to it.”
And Sherry does more than write…
Sherry brings history to life as she plays the role of a spooky narrator in The Theater of the Dead. It has run for two weekends and of course, the community has loved it!
Ageless Advice
Sherry says she has two secrets to aging gracefully.
- Physical fitness. She keeps it a priority every day and never takes her health for granted. Be dedicated to it and committed on a daily basis.
- Children. For Sherry, it’s her grandchildren that make her feel alive and aware of the simple things in life that are free.
