Spotlight on Georgia, who is aging gracefully with social senior exercise classes!
Georgia was one of my FIRST students in Strength & Balance.
I immediately appreciated her comforting warm smile, as I was teaching a new class, to new students, in a new facility!
At 79 years, this woman is a go-getter and the expression “never skips a beat” describes her so well!
Georgia can tell a story with such animation that it comes alive and you’re drawn right into it. I love it!
Recently, she remembered the tornado that hit the west side of Cleveland in 1953. (I have my grandparents’ pictures of the devastation from that well-remembered day, too.)
Georgia’s father was a family doctor and she proudly remembers him stitching up wounds and setting bones of the injured in their neighborhood. Medical emergency teams couldn’t even get into the area because of all the fallen trees and limbs.
After that horrific storm, Georgia’s family moved to the suburb of Fairview Park, which brought her father closer to Fairview Hospital, where he practiced medicine. Georgia graduated high school there, then later graduated from Northwestern University in Illinois. She married her husband Al and they grew to be a family with three boys, now grown men.
By now, their family has grown considerably larger, with six granddaughters and one grandson, as well!
Georgia and Al have lived in Avon Lake for the last 15 years and she says she loves this community on the water. Thankfully, she loves coming to my fitness classes!
Georgia has exercised most of her last twenty years or more – from her past membership with Curves, to long walks, and even video or tv classes at home – until she found my Strength & Balance class.
She said this class makes her feel energized!
“Some people don’t realize that we don’t have to lift heavy weights to make a difference in our strength or the way we feel! These moves aren’t too complicated or hard on my body either.
“And I enjoy the friends I’ve made in class. All the students are fun and friendly. It’s such a great group!”
I’m glad that my class makes Georgia’s world a little brighter.
Her shining personality certainly lights us up each week!
