This article isn’t about the subject you may be expecting when you see the term, “aerial perspective”. As an artist, I would usually use this term when speaking about how I render something in the distance, as a grove of trees or distant hills. Not this time…
Today my aerial perspective is about literally being in the air.
I recently took a trip and I made sure to purchase a window seat for both the flight to my destination and for the ride home as well. It had been a couple of years since I had flown and I wanted to watch as we left the earth, flew through the clouds, and then as we approached the earth again when we landed. It was daytime on my way to my destination and nighttime on the way home.
Do YOU ever feel overwhelmed?
Do problems sometimes seem too much to bear?
I know difficulties can appear too big at times. Unsurmountable. Looming large. When we see things in this light, the next thing may be anxiety and/or stress.
How am I supposed to deal with this issue? I can’t take it!
Will it work to go to bed, cover my head, and hope all will be resolved if I pretend it isn’t real?
That’s the way we feel sometimes, isn’t it?
Maybe we just need a bit of aerial perspective!
As we left the ground, every detail of the surrounding landscape was clearly visible. All soon changed as we rose higher in the sky. The buildings became little boxes that were smaller than my pinky nail. As I watched, semi-trailer trucks became tiny dots on the thin lines that were roads; dots so tiny I could imagine covering more than one with the tip of the said pinky nail!
I had a new perspective on what it was to be a human being.
I believe in God and this new perspective gave me a little glimpse into how I appear to God. How can someone so big love a little invisible dot like me?! And yet, he does!! So much so, that He wants me to cast all my care upon Him. He wants me to trust Him with my every need. He wants to take the anxiety I feel and replace it with His peace. Aerial perspective gave me a proper perspective.
Trust in God always.
