In a recent interview with Greg Willey, the executive director of Friendship Animal Protective League, a local no-kill rescue in Ohio, Aging Gracefully TV learned that animals are suffering from the quarantine, as well as humans.
New Mandates Create Big Problems at Shelters
Because of the social distancing mandates, normal animal intake had to be reduced by 60% so that staff or volunteers could maintain their 6-foot distance from each other.
Only animals in dire situations are able to be sheltered at this time. As an example, kittens found in a parking lot were recently rescued and are being cared for.
Please Hold On To Your Pets If Possible
Owners that want to relinquish their pets cannot do so now even though the reason may be affordability as a result of job loss. Some shelters are offering to help pet owners with food in those cases and this is one reason your monetary donation is important right now.
